This pattern is based upon the pineapple lace stitch, as it appears in Donna Kooler’s Encyclopedia of Crochet (2002, Leisure Arts).

You will have a rectangle. Slip stitch the edges together at your ending side for approximately 1 ½”. Fasten off and repeat for the other side. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Edging: Join with sl st into inside edge of shrug.
Row 1: Ch 1, sc evenly around the neck/body of shrug. Join with sl st to first sc, Turn.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc. Turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc. Turn.
Row 4: Ch 1, sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc. Turn.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

      I haven’t, but I haven’t made it in years either. I will work on the pattern again this weekend to see if I can’t figure out the mistake.
